Need a little extra inspiration to write some super witty captions!?
The humour in caption competition comes from a change of context that creates a surprising interpretation of the goings on in the image. You might want to change the context by asking:
-
What else?
Make other interpretations beyond the obvious? What else could objects be? For what other purposes could they be there? What can’t we see that could influence the makeup of the scene?
-
Why else?
Invent more bizarre reasons for the activity other than the obvious. Exaggerate. Understate the obvious. Reverse perspectives. Just think past what you see immediately taking place.
-
Where else?
Explore changing the physical locations. Where else would this scene be unsual/surprising/inappropriate?
-
Who else?
Who would look out of place in this scene? Who perhaps could be indirectly related to this scene e.g. a result of something a celebrity or politician has done.
-
How else?
How is the action in the image a new way of doing something else. Could it be an elaborate way of a going about a really quite mundane action?
-
When else?
Relate the activity to current affairs or maybe memorable events in the past. Would the scene be funny if it were juxtaposed in a different historical period?
